A Life of Worship

by Debbie Poer

Are you deep into Christmas preparations? Do you tell yourself it is a time of celebration of the birth of our Savior and yet stressed over the special dinners to prepare or to attend, the gifts to purchase, the family and friends to visit, and the list goes on, forgetting to celebrate and worship?

As we finish a year with the focus of keeping our eyes on Jesus, we are looking at worship throughout the month of December.  We so often think of worship as what we do on Sunday morning as we gather in our churches, but is there more to it?

When we read Exodus 20:3, You shall have no other gods before me, and hear Jesus’ words in Matthew 4:10, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve,” we know who we are to worship. In Romans 12:1 we hear Paul as he tells us a why and how of worship, Therefore, I urge you brother (and sisters), in view of God’s mercy, to offer you bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Our acts of worship are to be all the time of the one true God.

In the busyness of the season, pause for a few minutes of worship. Before you read any further, take a deep breath, quiet yourself, don’t rush to finish reading, and join me in a brief time of personal worship.

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
    let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
    and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God,
    the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
For he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Psalm 95:1-7

Continue your worship by spending a few minutes in prayer.

In your busy-ness, spend the day in moments of adoration, praise, and thanksgiving.

Then GO, share with someone, how great is our God!
