God’s Got This

by Ellen Clodfelter

Weary & Burdened?
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28-30)

Oh, how I needed to hear those words. Last week my family went through a very difficult situation and I was left broken and feeling like a failure. I know that your story is different from mine but I’m sure you have experienced similar circumstances that left you feeling the same way.

Go to God first!
Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and rest. Mark 6:31.

Usually I handle the situation by worrying, but this only leads to stress, anger and fear. When I worry, I can’t think clearly, and I’m left with so many unanswered questions. Why did this happen to me? Who do I turn to? What do I do? Will this happen again?

God calls me to be quiet and come to Him for rest. I just need to step back and seek His peace and comfort through prayer and Scripture.

Surround yourself with Christian friends!
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

I have a close friend who is going through a situation similar to my own. We get together often and listen to each other, comfort each other and pray for each other. She understands the pain I am going through, and I know I am not carrying this burden alone.

I have another close friend who is a little older and wiser than me and not only has she gone through something similar, but she has come out the other side alive. She is not only there to listen and pray but she also encourages me to press on and turn my focus to God. She can take some of the burden off my shoulders and give me hope that I will be able to make it through the day.

We need these Godly friendships to build each other up, encourage each other and pray for one another.

God works through my pain!
We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. (Romans 8:28)

While I wish I could never go through this type of pain again, I know that God uses these times to help me grow in faith. I have younger friends who will go through similar circumstances and God uses my sharing about my experiences to be able to help them through their rough times.

Be encouraged!
So, be encouraged. God is always with you and will work all things together for good and for His glory.
