A Stronger Faith

by Dr Sherri Wynn

We all struggle to live outwardly what our minds know to be true inwardly—God has planned each one of our days, and we can rest solely and completely in His care. Admittedly, some days are harder than others to show people (and ourselves!) that we truly believe that. Just as with dieting and exercise, results only show when we push ourselves every day to live out that belief. Whether it’s health, grief, financial worries, shame over a mistake we knew better than to make, or overall anxiety about a situation we cannot control, faith in God’s sovereignty and personal care for each one of us individually is the anchor we hold to. Sometimes my knuckles go completely white as I struggle to hold ever more tightly to His anchor, but I hold on.

I read a devotional thought recently about looking for God’s fingerprints. Years ago, I read that story about seeing only one set of footprints in the sand, indicating that God was carrying me through a hard time so only His footprints showed, but fingerprints? That writer said during her darkest trials she knew to keep her faith in God, but she really couldn’t see Him working in her life. Things were just too chaotic and heart breaking. After she was through the worst of it, however, she looked back and saw all the little signs that God had been close to her and moving through that darkness. She called those little signs “God’s fingerprints” on her life. I encourage you to look for God’s fingerprints every day but especially during the dark ones. Take comfort in Psalm 138:8: “The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.” That simple statement of fact makes holding on to His anchor easier for me, and I can finally let Him swing me through the waves and darkness according to His plans, not mine. I hope you can do the same!
